The Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater is a beautifully-restored treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places that offers visitors a unique and visually stunning experience. The theater is located at 315 North Chestnut Street in the heart of downtown Lumberton. First opened in 1928 as a vaudeville and silent film house, the theater offers a wide array of programming including live touring performances, original productions, art exhibits, films, special events and rentals.

The Carolina Civic Center in downtown Lumberton will hold auditions Feb. 11 through Feb. 13 for its annual “My Time to Shine Talent Competition” and its June production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

All auditions will be held at 315 N. Chestnut St. in downtown Lumberton.

Auditions for the Eighth Annual “My Time to Shine Talent Competition” will be held between 6 – 8 p.m. Feb. 11, and at 11 a.m. Feb. 12. The competition will be held March 19 at the theater and includes all categories of talent from singing and dancing to juggling. The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

A completed application and $20 application fee are required to audition. The application can be downloaded and printed out from the LINK ABOVE or by stopping by the theater’s administrative offices 1-5 p.m. weekdays at 315 N. Chestnut St.

All applications and the non-refundable $20 registration fee — checks may be made out to Carolina Civic Center — must be submitted to the Carolina Civic Center to the attention of Jonathan Brewington, stage manager, at 315 N. Chestnut St. Lumberton, N.C., 28358, by 6pm Feb. 7. Auditions are mandatory to compete, and incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Auditions for the theaters June 9-12 production of “The Wizard of Oz” will be held between 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Feb. 12 and 2:30pm Feb. 13 and will include adult and youth roles. The theater is only seeking talent for the following characters: Tin man, Scarecrow, and all ensemble roles. All desired roles including principals and ensemble should come prepared to sing a song from the show that displays their range and vocal ability. Those auditioning may be asked to attend a callback tentatively scheduled for February 18th, at 6:30.

Entertaining audiences for generations, this beloved tale follows a distraught Dorothy Gale as she is swept away on an adventure over the rainbow. Dorothy begins a journey down the Yellow Brick Road to get back home. With a new group of friends, ruby slippers and her brains, heart and courage in tow, not even the Wicked Witch can keep her from discovering the magical power of home.
