SUMMARY:Cornell Gunter’s Coasters
DESCRIPTION:Cornell Gunter’s Coasters\n7pm Friday April 22 \nThe Coasters are an American Rhythm & Blues and rock ‘n’ roll vocal group that had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Beginning with “Searchin” and “Young Blood”\, their most memorable songs were written by the songwriting and producing team Leiber and Stoller. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doowop\, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo wop legacy through the 1960s.  The Coasters’ hits also comprised a major portion of the song score for the 1994 musical revue Smokey Joe’s Café\, a retrospective of Leiber & Stoller songs that received one Grammy Award and seven Tony Award nominations following its 1995 Broadway debut. From “Yakkety Yak” to “Charlie Brown” to “Poison Ivy”\, these monumental songs helped induct The Coasters into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. \nTickets: Individuals $25\, Seniors (65+) and Military $22. Students $10\, PrivilegesPlus members $20. Group discount rates of $20 each for groups of 10 or more when purchased in advance are available by contacting the box office.  Season Tickets:  Purchase 5 or more events at the same time through our box office to receive a 20% discount off the top ticket price. SUMMARY:Brianna Goodwin Art Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater in downtown Lumberton will hold a reception 5:30-7pm Thursday April 7 for an exhibit featuring artwork by artist Brianna Goodwin. Emerge: The Art of Brianna Goodwin will be on display March 19 through April 22 in the theater’s main lobby.  In addition to the reception\, the exhibit can be viewed by the public during scheduled events or by appointment. \nBased in rural North Carolina\, Brianna Goodwin began creating floral pieces in her home as a therapeutic exercise\, and has been painting acrylic and mixed media works since 2019. Originally a performing artist\, she blends her love of telling stories with a passion for visual art. \n“Emerge is an exhibit that explores the transformational periods of one’s life\,” said Goodwin. “Throughout the pieces I have paired abstract portraits with symbols of nature and unorthodox brush strokes to reflect the imperfections of our patterns of emerging. Processes such as the changing of seasons from winter to spring or a woman becoming a mother are beautiful\, yet somewhat imperfect in nature. Through these works I hope to convey that however imperfect these life transformations may be\, they are vital to our growth and propensity to reach our truest selves.” \nSoon after Goodwin began sharing her work online\, she received inquiries from viewers interested in purchasing. Since that time\, she has immersed herself into developing her signature style of abstract and impressionistic paintings for her collectors. She has conducted workshops\, created a line of products and seen immeasurable success as a self-taught painter. She is elated to be partnering with the Carolina Civic Center to feature her first full exhibit. \nThe Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater is a beautifully-restored 1928 treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places that offers visitors a unique and visually stunning experience. The theater is located at 315 North Chestnut Street in the heart of downtown Lumberton.  First opened as a vaudeville and silent film house\, the theater offers a wide array of programming including live touring performances\, original productions\, art exhibits\, films\, special events and rentals. For more information visit www.carolinaciviccenter.com \nThe Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater is located in historic downtown Lumberton at Fourth and Chestnut streets\, just one block north of the downtown plaza. There is plenty of parking around the theater.

DESCRIPTION:With the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater closed to live audiences due to the governor’s executive order greatly limiting in-person crowd sizes\, the theater’s very popular annual “A Robeson County Christmas Show” will temporarily be transformed into a virtual streaming link option to be purchased and viewed from the cozy comfort of your home.\n\n\n\nWatching A Robeson County Christmas Show Virtual Special at home will be reminiscent of “old school” television Christmas specials. It will include a mix of new performances and top rated selections from last year’s edition. Featured artists recorded on the theater’s stage will also include \nLakota John\, Alexis Jones and Kendrix Singletary!\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, our annual heart-warming holiday musical revue will be available through the theater’s etix ticketing platform for $15\, and will be valid for the entire purchased date (you can view the special on demand during the 24-hour window\, after which it disappears)\, December 18\, 19\, 20 and 25. There will be a link to view the stream in your ticket purchase confirmation email. An email address is needed to receive the streaming link. Streaming Links can be purchased through the theater’s web site at https://www.etix.com/…/carolina-civic-center-historic… or by phone\, 1:00pm-5:30pm weekdays at 910.738.4339.\n\n\n\nThe annual Christmas show\, now in its ninth year\, has become one of the region’s most popular holiday traditions\, with 10 performances selling out last year. To continue this community spirit\, the theater’s supporters and fans are encouraged to take photos of themselves\, families and pets in front of their Christmas decorations (in holiday-themed sweaters and pajamas\, if the spirit so moves) and post or tag the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater on Facebook.\n\n\n\nTicket purchasers will be entered into a $50 gift card drawing announced at the conclusion of each show on our Facebook platform.\n\n\n \n

SUMMARY:What’s Going On: The Marvin Gaye Experience
DESCRIPTION:SEASON TICKETS GO ON SALE 12PM AUGUST 1! General on sale August 12 \nAs one of the pioneers of Motown\, singer-songwriter and producer Marvin Gaye helped shape the sound of R&B music and is considered one of the greatest artists of all time. Soul man Brian Owens is often referred to as the “second coming of Marvin Gaye.”  Owens\, who has performed at the White House for First Lady Michelle Obama\, dazzles audiences with performances that are full of soul and love well beyond his peers of today. His refined style combining classic soul with a slight modern touch is why audiences everywhere are calling him the new voice of American soul. \nWhat’s Going On: The Marvin Gaye Experience is Brian’s tribute to the legendary artist and includes music selections that span Gaye’s music-making career. Early solo hits like “Can I Get a Witness” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” share space with “You’re All I Need to Get By” and other classic duets. And any Marvin Gaye song list would be incomplete without perennial (and challenging) crowd-pleasers like “Let’s Get It On” or “Got To Give It Up.” \nAt its heart\, Brian’s Marvin Gaye Experience is about “preservation — upholding the tradition of true soul music that is so desperately needed in our culture today.” The show prominently features a suite of pieces from Gaye’s “What’s Going On” album\, counted as “one of the most socially important artistic works in the history of American music.” In light of recent events in and around Ferguson Missouri where he resides\, Brian says the show also speaks to a heightened sense of urgency and the prophetic beauty of Gaye’s 1971 work. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=25&v=TbLa2AkA5O8
