DESCRIPTION:Directed by Kendrix Singletary\, Hairspray is a high-energy musical set in 1962 Baltimore that follows Tracy Turnblad\, a big-hearted\, plus-size teenager with a passion for dancing and a belief in equality. Tracy dreams of appearing on The Corny Collins Show\, a popular local TV dance program. When she finally earns a spot on the show\, her talent and infectious spirit quickly make her a star\, and challenge the show’s rigid beauty standards. As Tracy’s popularity grows\, she uses her newfound platform to speak out against racial segregation on the program\, which only allows Black dancers to appear once a month on “Negro Day.” With the help of her best friend Penny\, heartthrob Link Larkin\, and her supportive mother Edna\, Tracy stands up to the show’s discriminatory producer\, Velma Von Tussle\, and her spoiled daughter Amber. Facing backlash\, arrest\, and public opposition\, Tracy refuses to give up. Their harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary styles has made a lasting impact on the genre. Today\, The Country Gentlemen Show\, composed of talented musicians\, carries the legacy of honoring the original band’s music and spirit. \nWhile the band honors the past\, it also looks to the future. Their album “Yesterday and Tomorrow” is a testament to this\, featuring new\, original material that stays true to the style of the original Country Gentlemen. This project\, especially poignant following Bill Yates’s passing\, shows the band’s commitment to evolving while respecting the roots from which they grew. \nTickets are $20 adults and $15 students. Hairspray is a musical based on John Waters’ 1988 film about a teenager named Tracy Turnblad who dreams of dancing on a local TV Show in 1962 Baltimore. \nTickets: Individuals $30\, Seniors (60+) and Military $27. Students $15. Group discount rates of $25 each for groups of 10 or more when purchased in advance are available by contacting the box office.  Season Tickets:  Purchase tickets to all 6 events of the season at the same time through our box office to receive a 20% discount.  *The seats in the back half of the balcony may have an obstructed view.
