DESCRIPTION:John Brown Little Big Band\, Featuring Shana Tucker\n7pm Saturday February 8 \n \nThe John Brown “little” Big Band is an 11-piece band that has a BIG sound! The group packs a punch and has the big band sound and features the return to the theater of vocalist Shana Tucker\, a favorite of North Carolina audiences. The Little Big Band will be performing the best hits of the classic and contemporary big band repertoire. \nTouted by JazzTimes Magazine as a jazz talent “…whose imprint and vitality has already been quite visible…” Shana’s style and sound as been described as a blend of Dianne Reeves\, Joni Mitchell\, and Tracy Chapman\, with an efficient complexity that is reminiscent of Bill Withers. She has opened for internationally-acclaimed artists including Norah Jones\, Lisa Fischer\, Sweet Honey in the Rock\, Hamiet Bluett\, Javon Jackson\, the Blind Boys of Alabama\, and Indigo Girls. \nBassist\, composer\, educator and actor John Brown is a native of Fayetteville\, North Carolina\, and currently resides in Durham\, NC. He is a graduate of the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently serves as Vice Provost for the Arts\, Director of the Jazz Program and Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University\, and has served on the faculties of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, North Carolina State University\, North Carolina Central University and Guilford College (NC). \n“Brown’s bowed playing of the melody makes his instrument the star of ‘Solitude’.”\n-HeraldSun.com \nTickets: Individuals $30\, Seniors (60+) and Military $27.
