SUMMARY:Act Now for the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act!
DESCRIPTION:Act Now for the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act!\nPlease take two minutes today to write to your NC Senator and urge them to support the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act (S849) to stop dishonest resellers from cheating fans\, hurting artists\, and damaging small businesses and nonprofits across the state. \nOn Monday\, April 27th\, Arts Caucus Co-Chair Senator Jay Chaudhuri filed the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act (S849) with primary sponsors: Arts Caucus Co-Chair Senator Vickie Sawyer\, and Regulatory Reform Committee Chair Senator Timothy Moffitt. The purpose of the bill is to stop the rampant gouging and cheating of patrons by ticket resellers to live events in North Carolina through misleading and dishonest sales practices. Arts North Carolina has been working on this problem with legislators\, the NC Presenters Consortium\, the NC Travel and Tourism Coalition\, and the National Independent Venue Association for well over a year. \nA national study shows that 81% of venues report the unauthorized resale of their tickets. Related\, 61% of venues report patrons arriving with fraudulent or unusable tickets. To minimize the damage to the patron\, 75% of these venues will attempt to provide admission at no charge\, effectively giving away the performance for free\, which harms our local businesses\, artists and our state’s creative economy. To stop this in North Carolina\, the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act (S849) would: \n•Require ticket resellers to be transparent\, clearly identifying themselves as resellers. \n•Ban deceptive language\, images\, and URLs that resellers use when pretending to be primary sellers or to be endorsed by the primary seller. \n•Require resellers to provide weblinks to the primary seller so consumers have a choice. \n•Ban all speculative ticket sales\, stopping the sale of tickets a seller does not possess. \n•Ban the use of “bots” to circumvent sales restrictions. \nIt ONLY takes two minutes to write to your NC Senator and urge them to support the Real Tickets\, Real Fans Act (S849) to stop dishonest resellers from cheating fans\, hurting artists\, and damaging small businesses and nonprofits across the state. \nTAKE ACTION! \n  \nLEARN MORE! \n  \nThank you to our friends at Arts NC sharing this important information.

SUMMARY:Before you buy - verify! PSA
DESCRIPTION:Dear NCPC Membership – this is a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! \nBefore you buy – verify! \nA special task force created by the North Carolina Presenters Consortium has been working over the past year to address an issue that directly\, and negatively\, impacts performance venues throughout North Carolina:  second- and third-party resellers.  These are the entities (sometimes called “pirates”) that position themselves between ticket purchasers and the original hosting venues\, typically inflating the original ticket price for their own profit. \n  \nThis effort originated this past year as the NC General Assembly has been working to draft legislation addressing this issue. This campaign kicks off with our NCPC membership\, including venues and their patrons – and artists who rely on ticket sales by those venues. \nWe have produced three 3-minute videos\, each sharing a graphics/info shell but highlighting a specific issue: \n“The Ticketing Pirates” \n“Same Seat/Multiple Sales” \n“Know Your Seller” \nWe also have a fourth video that features only the tips that are included in the other videos. Follow this link to view\, download and share the videos. \nPlease consider sharing these videos on your social media platforms\, web sites\, e-newsletters\, in your lobbies and from the stage before your shows. To help you with this\, we have created a took kit full of handy tips and graphic slide decks. \nAdd this announcement directly to your web site using the attached graphic as your featured image. \nHere is the Tips to Highlight in Social Media Posts (Consumers + Presenters) and the slide decks that support those tips. \nNeed even more ideas about how to use these videos? Click here for a great suggestion sheet. \nSo many of our venues\, patrons and artists have experienced the negative effects of an inflated or fraudulent ticket sale – so let’s make a proactive effort to shut this kind of activity down! \nAnd please reach out to us with any questions or suggestions – the show must go on! \n
